Ashwater Parish Hall was opened in March 2010 by Cllr Barry Parsons.  The hall replaced the previous one that had been in constant use since 1929 and had reached its expiry date.
 
The people of Ashwater donated and raised funds which together with grants from a variety of sources including the Big Lottery Fund enabled the building to be erected on a site donated for the purpose by the late Jack Moon.
 
The hall was an immediate success with use exceeding all projections and expectations.  It was soon obvious to the Trustees that an extension would be required especially as the kitchen was enlarged by use of a small meeting room within a short space of time.
 
Consequently plans have been drawn up and passed for an annexe to be built, which will permit stand alone use as well as assist with much needed storage space.
 
The business plan has now been adopted and targets set to achieve the necessary funds of circa £75,000 to enable building to be commenced. To see the business plan please click here: Hall_Annexe_Business_Plan_ver1.pdf
 
Fund raising is now a necessity and a number of events will be held as well as possible grant sources explored.  We have raised or been pledged over £45,000 to date (July 2018), which means we are 60% of the way there!
 
We are grateful to Torridge District Council as they have granted £25,000 towards the extension project.

Ashwater Parish Hall - Trustees 2018/19
 
At the AGM on 28th June 2018 the following Trustees were elected:

At the AGM, confirmation was received that the application for the new Ashwater Parish Hall Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) had been accepted and registered by the Charity Commission under Registered Charity Number 1178190.  The Trustees will now proceed with the necessary arrangements to uplift the assets from the existing charity in due course.
 
The new CIO can register up 12 Trustees - anyone interested in becoming a trustee?  Please let any existing trustee know - it is essential for the smooth running of the hall that representation from as many parish organisations or parish residents as are permitted by the constitution are included. 
 
The trustees meet four times a year in the hall and discuss administration and operation of the hall, they also appoint a General Purposes Committee that meets about once a month to deal with day to day matters. 
 
Hall Activities
Table tennis, badminton, pilates, yoga, parish council meetings, ladies and men's skittles, photographic group, art group, coffee mornings, agricultural show committee meetings, community shop meetings, craft and produce fayres, hall trustees and general purposes meetings.  Weddings, parties, social events, big breakfasts, fund raisers, commercial sales,  car washing, dances, wine and wisdom, theatre performances, dancing, talks and exhibitions.

The Trustees next meet on 25th July 2018 at 8.00 pm.  Members of the public may also attend, although it would be helpful if they advise the Secretary (Ivan Buxton: ibuxton16@btinternet.com) 7 days beforehand if they wish to raise any specific matters as the quarterly agenda is often time specific.
